Dupont state recreational forest
In 2011 DuPont State Forest was designated as a State Recreational Forest by the North Carolina General Assembly to be managed primarily for natural resource preservation, scenic enjoyment and recreational purposes. These include horseback riding, hiking, bicycling, hunting and fishing.
The forest, featuring spectacular waterfalls, unique ecological communities, lakes and an extensive trail system, is managed by the North Carolina Forest Service, part of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Visitors to the forest should be prepared for a rugged outdoor experience. DuPont has limited options for public drinking water and no food services. While cellphone service is limited, free wireless internet service is available at the Visitor Center, which also offers trail maps and a knowledgeable staff to help you plan your time on the forest.
